Today I went to the Université de Bretagne occidentale with Allison to put up signs offering my English teaching "services". It was about a half-hour bus ride, but probably wouldn't be longer on a bike.

It may have been the best thing I've done since I've been here.

We wandered about a bit, and peered into a class, geography I think, and I felt such a desire to go sit down and start learning, it was kind of impressive actually. It really made me realize how much I love school. I mean, fucking geography, for Christ's sake. Academia may just be the thing for me after all...

So then we went to the secretary's office and discovered that we can go to as many classes as we want, as "free auditors", for only 53 Euros for the entire year! OH MY GOD! This means I can have something to do for at least a few hours a week. YES! This is perhaps WAY more exciting than it ought to be, but it's also very interesting for me to realize just how much I need to study. Maybe for the rest of my life. I don't care how futile and endless that sounds, it's one of the only things that actually makes me happy.

So, yes, I am going to start sitting in on classes. Maybe Spanish, maybe French lit. (scary), maybe even Geography. It doesn't really matter to me at this point.

Anyway, then we came back, ate a frozen pizza, drank a bottle of wine, and sat around. Then Allison went home, ostensibly for me to start working on my "lesson" for tomorrow. Needless to say, it is still non-existent. I am now listening to yesterday's episode of This American Life, which is infinitely more interesting than figuring out how to teach time to French 10-year-olds.

BUT, about 20 minutes after she left, Allison called me. On her way home, she had run into a guy asking her if she knew how to get to an open tabac. His name was Pierre. He had an earring. She remembered, and escaped. Thank God.
